Invited speaker – Preliminary biopharmaceutical Classification of Antibiotics for Pulmonary Delivery – Sandrine Marchand |
After 1 year of absence, our laboratory made its big comeback for the 30th edition of the science festival, organized on October 2 and 3, 2021 at Espace Mendès France in Poitiers. In total, more than 250 people were welcomed by our team at the “Bacteria are resisting” stand. Through our rich and varied activities, they were able to learn more about the theme of antibiotic resistance.
Finally, all the participants were rewarded for their efforts by our friendly hostesses! Each child received a “young researcher” diploma as well as a gift bag filled with goodies, bacteria soft toys and other delights.
We we participated in the 4th edition of to the “Nuits des chercheurs” organized by the University Hospital of Poitiers each year.
Our students are also in the first line to talk about our laboratory through different events by participating to the MT180.
Hariyanto Ih first participated during the 1Oth Joint Working Group Indonesia-France in Poitiers in 2018.
Then, 2 brilliant Phd students of the unit, Rana Awad and Jennifer Tardiveau, have participated this year in Poitiers

In the frame of the Ecole de l’ADN, Dr. Julien Buyck is regularly interviewed by young students from high schools of the region. In January 2019 and in January 2020 they were students from Lycée Elie Vinet (Barbezieux).
Christophe Burucoa is administrator of the school of DNA Nouvelle Aquitaine, a space for initiation, information and debate on the development of life sciences. He organized courses on antibiotic resistance offered to junior high school students in the region. Three to four courses are organized each year for 12 classes.
Students and their teachers come to Poitiers for 3 days. During this stay, they are confronted with clinical cases and carry out antibiograms and PCR in search of the mecA gene to adapt the therapeutic response. They visit the Bacteriology laboratory and meet several professionals representing different research and health professions in order to help them with their professional orientation.
At a distance, a return is organized in their high school during which they will present their results of manipulation, the visit of the lab and will make posters on the professions encountered. A debate on antibiotic resistance ended the day.
For our students funded by the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the « scientific communication » module is mandatory. Jennifer Tardiveau have visited high schools in our region to present the researcher’s academic career and profession and the research theme of the laboratory. In November 2019, she did a visit of the Lycée Emile Roux (Confolens) and the Lycee Desfontaines (Melle).
The laboratory is also participating to the “Nuits des chercheurs” organized by the University Hospital of Poitiers each year. For one evening three weeks after the “Fête de la science”, some researchers of our unit are presenting our research activity to the public and patients in the hall of the hospital. In 2019, we realized a movie with some pictures to present the whole activities of the laboratory.
Since 2017, the INSERM U1070 is participating to the “Fête de la science” each first weekend of October. This event takes place into the scientific conference center of Poitiers (Espace Mendès France). It consists to exposition with kind of workshops around antibioresistance and PK/PD:
Our participation in 2019 has been highlighted on the INSERM Bordeaux website :
Two of our researchers have been invited to speak during the worldwide event Pint of Science. Thus, Vincent Aranzana-Climent and Dr. Julien Buyck have presented two conferences during the evening with 30 people on the theme “les antibiotiques, c’est fantastique?”.
Dr. Julien Buyck has started by a general presentation called “Et si les antibiotiques n’étaient plus efficaces demain?”, and Vincent Aranzana-Climent continued with a presentation talking about “La pharmacométrie au service de l’antibiothérapie”.
Some of our PhD students are involved in the organization of this event in Poitiers. Vincent Aranzana-Climent (in 2018), Jennifer Tardiveau and Grace Akrong (2019 and 2020) are volunteers for the organization of the Pint of Science event.
In April 2019, the laboratory has participated to the “Printemps de la recherche” which is organized by the University of Poitiers for Employees of the University. The lab did a presentation of the different activities and organized a visit of our facilities.
Some of our PhD students are visiting the High school of the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine to talk to young students about their training courses, the researcher career and the place of women in the scientific world, in the frame of the Women in Science (now called “Sciences En Mouvement d’Elles”) event organized by Espace Mendès France. The aim is to enhance the professional careers of women and to fight against stereotypes and inequalities.
Alexia Chauzy and Sophie Magréault were visiting a High school of Niort (Lycée la Venise Verte) in March 2018.
Grace Akrong and Jennifer Tardiveau were visiting a secondary school Jean Rostand in Neuville-de-Poitou in April 2019.
The tight relationship between our team and Espace Mendès France from Poitiers, has given numbered events like a conference from Dr. Julien Buyck and Dr. Blandine Rammaert about “Et si les antibiotiques n’étaient plus efficaces demain?”, in October 2018.
Espace Mendes France is becoming a real partner of our recent PANAMA project funded by INSERM and region Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Article in the local newspaper La Nouvelle République has been published:
