Short CV:
Dr Rodolfo Molina-Pena was trained as a chemical engineer at Tec de Monterrey in Mexico and specialized in tissue engineering at the Buckley Lab at the Trinity Center for Bioengineering, in Ireland. He is interested in theragnostic approaches in which diagnosis and specific targeted therapy are combined to achieve personalized patient treatment. His experiences in this field include the use of anti-Netrin-1 functionalized microbubbles for the detection of Netrin-1 expressing breast tumors, by using ultrasound molecular imaging. He performed his PhD in Oncology at the University of Angers at the “Centre de recherche en cancérologie et immunologie intégrée Nantes – Angers” under the supervision of Frank Boury and Emannuel Garcion. His research focused on the use of implantable biomaterials for the sustained release of the chemokine SDF-1α (stromal cell-derived factor 1 alpha) for the design of glioblastoma cell traps. Then, he joined the PHAR2 team (INSERM U1070) at the University of Poitiers as Associate Professor in Pharmacy in 2024, where he has collaborated with Frédéric Tewes in the European project APRINHA, in the in-vitro and in-vivo evaluation of novel inhalation formulations for lung infections. His current project involves the use of microbubbles for the targeted and controlled delivery of antibiotics to combat resistant bacterial biofilms.
